IMPRO Amsterdam isn’t just about great shows - it’s also about learning and connecting with the global improv community.
Each year we host around 60 workshops that we categorise into three categories: skill-building, exploration, and discovery. Learn more below!
Submissions for teaching slots will open in early summer.

Skill-Building Workshops
Skill-building workshops are typically (but not always) 3 hours long and are appropriate for all levels of experience. They focus on honing the core tools every improviser needs, including (but certainly not limited to) listening, character work, object work, emotion, and support.

We look for improv teachers with some experience, a clear and focused workshop pitch, and an interesting set of techniques or point of view.
Exploratory Workshops
Exploratory workshops are perfect for improvisers who are looking for a little more of a challenge. They typically range from 6-12 hours and give participants a deep dive into something a little more advanced, theoretical, or nuanced. Previous topics have included deep dives into different storytelling models, musical improv techniques, new formats, and much more.

For exploratory workshops we look for experienced improv teachers with a strong point of view who are offering something beyond what is available in traditional improv coursework.
Discovery Workshops
Discovery workshops are designed to take participants outside of the bounds of ‘traditional’ improv. Why not take a movement workshop from a dance teacher? Explore improv through puppetry? Create a drag persona and put on an improvised pageant?

For exploratory workshops we look for teachers who practice any art form, from dance to pro wrestling to stage combat. Wherever there is an element of discovery in the moment, or making things up on the spot, we figure that’s a form of improv. If you have some experience with improv too, that’s great, but it’s not required - if we love the pitch, we’ll work with you to make it work for our audience.
