At IMPRO Amsterdam, we believe that impro can be anything. Our lineup is designed to highlight the just how much is possible in improvised theatre, from the comedic to the dramatic, the physical to the wordy, the grounded to the absurd.
To make it a little easier for you to decide what shows to attend, we’ve organised the program so that each night highlights a different thing that impro can be.

IMPRO IS… (Re)unions
Saturday’s lineup celebrates unions and reunions - after all, that’s a big part of what festivals are for!
On the mainstage (19:45-22:15):
It’s a Love Story directed by Kiki Miller-Hohnen
Get ready to fall in love! It's A Love Story is an improvised rom-com that celebrates not just love, but the stories we tell about it - all set to the music of the queen of romance herself, Taylor Swift.
REUNITED: The Band led by Lucy Trodd, with Stacey Smith, Heather Urquhart, Ralph Krumins, Markus Wisth Edvarsen, and more
The band is getting back together! In REUNITED: The Band, watch an all-star troupe of musical improvisers (including a full band) led by Showstopper!'s Lucy Trodd rehearse their hits, rekindle their friendship, and prepare for their reunion show.
For our late night show (22:30-23:00):
Every Jon and Aree Everywhere All At Once with Jon Nguyen and Aree Witoelar
Inspired by the 2022 instant Asian all time classic film with a very similar name, Every Jon and Aree Everywhere All At Once takes two Asian performers who are often mistaken for each other and throws them into the multiverse - one character, two shows happening simultaneously, one audience in the middle. Note: everything bagels not included.

IMPRO IS… historical
Saturday’s lineup is all about historical inspiration, from the ancient past to last year’s festival.
Our community show (18:45-19:30)
Improv Karaoke Throwdown, led by Ralph Krumins
One of last year’s most popular jams is BACK. Warm up your voice and get ready to sing along!
On the mainstage (19:45-22:15):
The Historical Mockumentary directed by Laura Riseborough
Ever wanted to see a to-camera confessional from Alexander the Great about how annoying his generals are, or learn about Marie Antoinette's cake preferences from her own mouth? In The Historical Mockumentary, we'll learn what REALLY happened during world events that shaped history in classic mockumentary style.
Molière Unscripted led by Gael Doorneweerd-Perry, with Lori Inbal, Laura Doorneweerd-Perry, Charlotte Gittins, and Paul Berrocal
No need to be familiar with classic French literature to enjoy this show! Molière Unscripted is a hilarious—and somewhat critical—depiction of society during the reign of Louis XIV. It will make you laugh, dream of fancy dresses and let you pretend that you’ve read some French classics.
For our late night show (22:30-23:00):
Once Upon a Time in Egypt with Achmed Achrafi
In Once Upon A Time in Egypt (developed by 3albaraka improv), Ahmed Achrafi will, with the help of a variety of audience members, tell a questionably accurate (but definitely entertaining) tale from Egyptian history. The audience provides the hero, villain, and scenario, while Ahmed directs and plays all of the supporting characters. This is your chance to literally make history (and laugh a lot while doing it)!

IMPRO IS… relationships
Monday’s lineup celebrates all different sorts of relationships - between students, within performing duos, in times of crisis and across supernatural boundaries.
Our community show (18:45-19:30)
Acting Skills Showcase, featuring the students of Inbal Lori’s intensive workshop.
See how much a group of students can accomplish in three days of intensive acting skills training.
On the mainstage (19:45-22:15):
The Dark Age of Love directed by Billy Kissa
The Dark Age of Love is a post-apocalyptic theatrical unscripted play that explores betrayal and loyalty. In dystopian worlds, these are the stories of people who had to choose between staying alive and staying loyal. Ethics are questioned, secrets are revealed, and while the end has already happened, the future remains uncertain.
The Lorilees with Inbal Lori and Lee White
Take Israeli-born Inbal Lori, who brings powerful and versatile characters to life with astonishing skill. Add the Canadian improv hero Lee White, his protagonists mirror a wide and absurd range of humanity. Together, they have been Berlin’s hottest duo for the last ten years. They approach stories in a way that's beautiful and edgy. Never afraid to shy away from hard topics, their improv styles mash together with power and grace. She is a true live wire. He’s a hunter standing still. They are The Lorilees.
For our late night show (22:30-23:00):
What We Improvise in the Shadows with members of Improbubble
Inspired by the cult mockumentary and subsequent HBO series "What We Do in the Shadows", What We Improvise in the Shadows invites the audience into a world in which ghoulish creatures and humans co-exist, some more harmoniously than others...!

IMPRO IS… Proper theatre
Tuesday’s shows all demonstrate that improvised theatre has learned from (and has a place in) the world of more traditional, scripted, “proper” theater.
Our community show (18:45-19:30)
Coach Rookard Teaches Improv Jam, led by Kevin Miller.
Sorry, the drama teacher called in sick. What happens when a football coach steps in to teach improv?
On the mainstage (19:45-22:15):
The Well-Made Play directed by Lindsey McGowen
Theatre has been around for thousands of years, and since then theatre-makers have learned a thing or two about what works. The Well Made Play, directed by Lindsey McGowen (US/Canada) takes lessons from some of our greatest scripted family dramas and transposes them to an improv stage, creating a play that, while made up on the spot, feels like a familiar instant classic.
Scenes from a Marriage with performers from Improbubble
Inspired by Ingmar Bergman's iconic 1973 drama and the 2021 HBO remake, Scenes from a Marriage dissects the hardship and the beauty of long-term relationships with candid intimacy. It's bold, powerful, uncomfortable, tender, surprising, and deeply human.
For our late night show (22:30-23:00):
Chaos in Black from Cliffs of Dover
Chaos in Black, performed by Amsterdam's own Cliffs of Dover, is a dark comedy inspired by the film "Death at a Funeral". It follows a group of funeral attendees who struggle to balance their personal agendas with appropriate funereal solemnity. Join the funeral as an unwitting mourner and witness the, well, chaos unfold.

IMPRO IS… Communication
Wednesday’s shows play with different modes of communication: between the cast and the audience, between people faced with a life-or-death decision, between you and the people you’re afraid to talk to, and between you and… a wok.
Our community show (18:45-19:30)
Object Wok Jam, led by Aree Witoelar.
It’s a jam with a single point of inspiration: a wok. That’s all you need to know.
On the mainstage (19:45-22:15):
Could They Be Wrong directed by Bodei Brouwer
Could They Be Wrong? is a dramatic improvised play directed by Bodei Brouwer inspired by the movies Women Talking and Twelve Angry Men. They’re all equal, they all have a voice but could they be wrong?
Clap Clap with Marta Borges, Pedro Borges, and guests
CLAP CLAP is two shows in one: the story being performed, and the thoughts and commentary of the improvisers telling it. It's an improvised narrative of spontaneous creation, alternating (with two claps) between performance and 'rehearsal' modes, that allows the audience to peek into the brains of the improvisers.
For our late night show (22:30-23:00):
Conversations We Can’t Have with Amy Kraft
Conversations We Can’t Have is a late-night improv show where hand puppets take on the conversations we dodge in real life—telling your boss to shove it, confessing your love to a secret crush, asking your mom why she disappeared, or having a conversation with your favorite chair -- basically, saying the lines you rehearse in your head but never say out loud.

IMPRO IS… Connections
Thursday is all about connection: through music, dance, intimacy, and employment.
Our community show (18:45-19:30)
Let The Music Play Jam, led by Phatt Al
Music connects everybody, onstage and off. Play together with music as inspiration!
On the mainstage (19:45-22:15):
La Ronde directed by Simone Ellul
This La Ronde harkens back to the origins of the structure - a play written by Arthur Schnitzler in 1897 that examines the sexual morality and class ideology of its day through successive encounters between pairs of characters (before or after a sexual encounter). She combines her experience as an intimacy coordinator with her deep well of improv knowledge to create a show that is honest, intimate, and, dare we say, sexy.
Zermos from Les Sémillants
Les Sémillants' ZERMOS (Zone Exposée aux Risques de Mouvements Spontanés, or Exposed Area of Risk of Spontaneous Movements) is an improvised physical theatre show combining a few words with dance and mimes, all performed to live music. Every show tells a unique story, but always in a style that is musical, slapstick, and poetic... and like nothing you've ever seen before.
For our late night show (22:30-23:00):
Blumpkin Abbey with Pip Roper, Amy Jane, Billy Mason Wood, Kevin Napier, and Alice Schmid
Blumpkin Abbey presents to you all the passions and tensions of the British class system you never knew you wanted to see. The characters brim with love, hatred, secret yearnings and, possibly, murderous intent. The show spins a complex and surreal (and very funny) web around an event at the manor, accompanied by posh hats, cravats, braces (suspenders), questionable accents, and a healthy dose of class skepticism.

IMPRO IS… inspired
Friday’s lineup takes inspiration from some of the different ways we can be inspired - by teachers, by cultural tradition, and by literature.
Our community show (18:45-19:30)
Musical Intensive Showcase, with the students of Heather Urquhart and Markus Wisth Edvarsen’s musical intensive
After two days of training, our advanced musical improvisation students will bring you straight to Broadway!
On the mainstage (19:45-22:15):
Navarasa Leela directed by Balasree Viswanathan
Why does anything happen? Some believe we, the mortals, do everything. Others believe it is all pre-determined by the gods. An ancient culture thinks it's both - it's the gods speaking through mortals by becoming the 9 core emotions. Navarasa Leela is based on the Navarasas framework from traditional Indian theatre and is a modern exploration of this ancient question. Come witness the sacred dance we've been a part of since time immemorial.
1Pro84 from Le Navire - Compagnie Culturelle
1pro84 is a show exploring what it means to be human in a dystopian future. Through three stories in the style of classic dystopias like Black Mirror, 1984, and Mad Max, five performers explore dark visions of the future on a 1m² stage, an oppressive space allowing the artists to create intricate worlds in a matter of seconds.
For our late night show (22:30-23:00):
Whispers of the North from Frie Tøyler Impro
Whispers of the North is an improvised folk musical that brings the dark, magical, and playful world of Norwegian folklore to life on stage. Inspired by the collected tales of Asbjørnsen & Moe, our ensemble dives into a landscape of trolls, hidden folk, enchanted forests, and impossible tasks – all created in the moment, with the audience’s imagination as our compass.

IMPRO IS… Family
On closing night, we celebrate our festival family (and one actual family).
Our community show (18:45-19:30)
The Heroes Journey Through Anime, with the students of Aree Witoelar’s workshop
Listen, you’ve gotta end the fest (and make the family happy) with a crowd-pleasing showcase.
On the mainstage (19:45-22:15):
Taxi Tales directed by Mark Smith and Diana Brown
Inspired by Raymond Carver's short stories (which were later adapted into Robert Altman's film 'Short Cuts'), Mark Smith & Diana Brown's Taxi Tales is a playful exploration of humanity as seen through the simplest of interactions. Set in the back of a taxi, the story unfolds over a single night, revealing the personal struggles and frustrations of everyday life for both the driver and their passengers. What emerges across the show is voyeuristic, funny, and very human.
Orange Tuxedo with Carla and Craig Cackowski
Orange Tuxedo (Los Angeles, CA) is a 2-person comedic improv show featuring Craig and Carla Cackowski, a husband and wife team. Orange Tuxedo has performed and taught in over fifty improv festivals and theaters since 2015. In their show "Full Disclosure", they break the fourth wall and talk to the audience in the middle of their improv scenes, telling REAL anecdotes from their lives as a married couple (and their thoughts as improvisers).
